Post Natal & C-Section Scar Tissue Therapy
What Can Postnatal Therapy Help With
We support people experiencing:
- C-section scar sensitivity, tightness, or restriction
- Abdominal tension or post-surgical discomfort
- Back, neck, and shoulder pain from feeding or holding baby
- Carpal Tunnel symptoms
- Hip or pelvic discomfort
- Stress, fatigue, overwhelm, or sleep issues
- Lingering movement and mobility issues after pregnancy or birth
How a C-Section Scar Can Affect You
Even once healed, scar tissue can sometimes:
- Feel tight, raised, or sensitive
- Cause pulling sensations when standing upright or moving
- Affect abdominal strength or posture
- Contribute to lower back, hip, or pelvic discomfort
- Create numbness or altered sensation
- Leave you feeling disconnected from your body
These experiences are common – and support is available.
Specialist C-Section Scar Therapy
C-section scars can feel tight, numb, hypersensitive, or uncomfortable – even months or years later. We offer gentle, non-invasive scar therapy that helps:
- Reduce pain, sensitivity, or adhesions
- Improve abdominal comfort and mobility
- Restore ease of movement and reduce physical tension
- Help improve the appearance of the scar
We work at a gentle pace – always prioritising your preferences and comfort.
What to Expect from Treatment
We begin with a gentle conversation about your birth experience, recovery, and any current symptoms. You remain fully in control at all times.
Treatment may include:
- Light manual work on and around the scar
- Techniques to encourage tissue mobility and comfort
- Support for sensation and awareness in the area
- Guidance on posture, breathing, and movement
- In some cases, the use of LymphaTouch therapy, which uses carefully controlled negative pressure (a gentle lifting of the tissue) to support circulation, reduce restriction, and improve tissue glide
LymphaTouch is always introduced thoughtfully and only where clinically appropriate.
When Can You Start
Scar therapy is usually suitable once your scar is fully healed and closed – often from around 8-12 weeks after birth.
If you are unsure, we’re happy to advise.
It is also never too late.
Many women seek support years after a C-section and still experience meaningful improvements in comfort and movement.

Client's Questions Answered
When can I start postnatal massage?
For general postnatal massage, you can come as soon as you feel ready – many clients start from around 2-4 weeks after a vaginal birth. For C-section scar therapy specifically, we usually recommend waiting until your scar is fully closed and healed, typically around 8-12 weeks. If you’re unsure, get in touch and we’ll advise based on your situation.
Is C-section scar therapy painful?
No, although you may experience some slight discomfort. We use light, respectful touch to support healing and function – with your full consent and at a pace you’re comfortable with. LymphaTouch may create a lifting or pressure-change sensation, but intensity is always adjusted.
Can therapy help numbness or tingling?
In many cases, improving tissue mobility and circulation can support sensory awareness over time.
It’s been years since my C-section - is it still worth coming?
Yes. Scar tissue can cause restriction or discomfort long after birth. We regularly help people who thought “it was just something to live with.”
Is this internal pelvic treatment?
No. We work externally only.
Can I support my recovery at home?
Sometimes. We may suggest simple techniques or tools such as soft silicone suction cups where appropriate.
Can I bring my baby with me?
Absolutely. Whilst we would recommend you aim to attend these sessions alone, to prioritise your own wellbeing, you’re very welcome to bring your baby – we’ll adapt the session however we can to help you feel comfortable and supported.
How many sessions will I need for my C-section scar?
Every scar responds differently. Some clients notice meaningful change in 2-3 sessions. Others with more complex scarring, adhesions, or long-standing restriction benefit from a longer course. We’ll give you an honest picture after your first appointment – there’s no pressure to commit upfront.
Can scar therapy help with the "overhang" or "shelf" above my C-section scar?
The overhang is often caused by scar tissue pulling the skin and fascia inward, not just by body composition. Scar therapy can help soften adhesions and improve how the tissue sits – which for many clients reduces the appearance of the shelf. It’s one of the most common reasons people come to us.
I feel emotionally disconnected from my scar / abdomen - is that normal?
Yes, and you’re not alone. Many women describe feeling numb – physically and emotionally – around their C-section scar. It can feel like that part of your body doesn’t belong to you anymore. Scar therapy can help restore sensation and, for many clients, a sense of reconnection. We work gently and at your pace.
Can I have treatment if I'm breastfeeding?
Yes. Postnatal massage and scar therapy are safe while breastfeeding. If you need to feed or express during your appointment, that’s absolutely fine – we’ll adapt.
Can I have treatment if I'm pregnant again?
If you’re pregnant and want to address an existing C-section scar, we can discuss what’s safe and appropriate for your stage of pregnancy. In some cases, gentle scar work is still possible. We’ll always err on the side of caution and advise honestly.
What if I had an emergency C-section - does that change anything?
The type of C-section (planned or emergency) doesn’t change whether scar therapy can help – but it can affect how you feel about the experience. We understand that emergency births can carry additional emotional weight, and we’ll never rush or push you. Your comfort and consent come first, always.
Your recovery matters.
Whether it’s weeks or years after birth, it’s never too late to seek support.
