Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Helping You Move Past Persistent Pain

Shockwave therapy is most effective when other treatments – rest, rehab, massage – haven’t resolved the problem. If you’ve been stuck for weeks or months, this may be the next step.

At Advance SRM Therapies, we use extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) to treat chronic or slow-healing injuries – especially tendon, fascia and deep tissue problems. It’s a non-invasive, clinically validated treatment that uses sound waves to stimulate healing in damaged tissue.

Used in elite sport and NHS pathways, it’s also available here – as part of a whole-person treatment plan, not a one-off fix.

Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy can be effective for:

  • Plantar fasciitis / heel pain
  • Achilles tendinopathy
  • Shoulder pain (e.g. rotator cuff, calcific tendonitis)
  • Tennis / golfer’s elbow
  • Gluteal tendinopathy / lateral hip pain
  • Patellar tendinopathy (jumper’s knee)
  • Chronic scar or fascial restriction
  • Delayed healing after injury
  • Stubborn muscle knots or trigger points

If you’ve tried rehab, massage or rest and symptoms are still hanging on – shockwave may help restart the healing process.

Not sure if shockwave is right for your condition? Book an initial assessment — we’ll tell you honestly whether it’s likely to help.

We use a handheld device that delivers pulses of acoustic energy into the affected area. This stimulates the body’s natural repair response by:

  • Increasing blood flow
  • Disrupting chronic inflammation
  • Breaking down calcification (in some cases)
  • Encouraging collagen regeneration and tissue repair

It’s non-invasive and doesn’t involve needles, injections or medication.

  • A full assessment and discussion of your symptoms
  • A course of 3-6 weekly treatments (depending on condition)
  • Combination of shockwave, soft tissue therapy and movement support if appropriate
  • Clear advice on rehab, loading and aftercare
  • Follow-up support to track your progress

We never just “blast and go.” We build a plan around your body, your goals, and how you respond.

Some discomfort is normal during treatment – it feels like pulsing or tapping on the affected area. But it’s quick, and most clients tolerate it well. We always work at a pressure that’s appropriate for you.

Client's Questions Answered

How many sessions will I need?

Typically 3-6 weekly sessions, depending on the condition and how your body responds. We reassess as we go – no unnecessary sessions.

No – you can self-refer. If we feel shockwave isn’t appropriate for your issue, we’ll let you know and guide you toward better options.

Shockwave therapy is backed by strong evidence for many tendon-related issues, especially plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy. We’ll always be realistic about what to expect.

Yes – and we often do. Shockwave targets the tissue at a cellular level, while soft tissue therapy addresses surrounding tension, movement patterns, and recovery. The combination is often more effective than either alone.

Yes. It’s non-invasive with no needles, medication, or downtime. Side effects are minimal — mild soreness or redness at the treatment site is normal and usually resolves within 24–48 hours.

Availability on the NHS is limited and varies by area. Many clients come to us after long waiting lists or because shockwave isn’t offered locally through their GP. We can usually see you within a week.

Ready to try a different approach?

If rest, rehab, or time hasn’t shifted your pain – shockwave therapy could be the next step. Book an initial consultation with John and we’ll assess whether ESWT is right for you.
