Scar tissue therapy is a non-invasive method of treating scar tissue that has been left behind after surgery, an accident, or burns. Advance SRM Therapies offers specialised massage to soften and flatten raised scars, improve their texture and colour, and broaden the range of motion in the affected areas, helping to lessen the pain and discomfort brought on by scarring.

WHAT IS SCAR TISSUE?

Scar tissue is like biological “glue” the body uses to repair injuries to itself, but it can cause problems long after the injury heals.  Scar tissue fibrosis is a mass of hardened protein strands laid down haphazardly by fibroblasts at the injury site. It is often a factor in chronic musculoskeletal pain.

WHAT IS SCAR TISSUE THERAPY and WHY DO YOU NEED IT?

Scar Tissue Therapy uses various hands-on techniques and complementary tools to ease and release the scarred fascia. The Soft Tissue Strategies we use for Scar Release are – STR (Soft Tissue Release), ‘Body Position Drivers’, Instrument Assisted Massage, Silicone Cupping, Long Hold Myofascial Release and Breathwork.

Scar tissue can have an adverse effect on the normal function of the soft tissues of the body including the muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (connective tissue). Left untreated, scarring can lead to restricted/painful movements and unwanted compensatory changes in other areas of the body. This can leave individuals feeling uncomfortable on a day-to-day basis and may inhibit their ability to perform simple activities that were previously undertaken easily (such as sports, exercise, stretching, gardening or childcare).

WHO IS THIS FOR?

Scar Tissue Therapy is suitable for anyone who has undergone surgery or experienced an injury which has led to the formation of scar tissue on the body. This can be historic or more recent and may be causing discomfort or restricting movement. Sometimes a client may present with a seemingly unrelated issue which upon assessment, is in fact linked to scar tissue elsewhere on the body.

Common examples are:

  • Women who have birthed via C-Section, experienced a Hysterectomy and other Gynaecological/Female Surgeries that involve abdominal incisions.
  • Those who have had surgery to remove cancerous tumors and surrounding tissue (oncology massage is also available)
  • Those who have experienced major physical trauma which has required surgical intervention or reconstructive surgery.
  • Knee and hip replacement scars
